Freckle Brooklyn: Reports From The Front Desk

Dear Frecklers,

You wouldn't think so, but so much happens here at the front desk. Especially on a busy Saturday like this one. There is a lot of rejecting to be done! Due to high demand and our small staff, we have had walk-in's today asking for manis, pedis, eyebrow tints and more. I have had to tell them the truth: we are simply booked up at the present moment.

That's no fun. I wish we could take each person. I don't know how to do nails, also I have not the slightest clue about waxing. Ania and Aneta on the other hand, they are pros. So many people come here for them. We even had a gal today travel all the way from New Jersey! She refuses to go to anyone else.

I can't go on with this entry without mentioning Martha. The care she takes with the work she does on toes and nails is extremely awesome. She was pretty busy today as well.

Thus, my conclusion for the day is: make an appointment! It's always good to call to get an idea of what our day here at Freckle looks like. I will be answering calls from Wednesday to Saturday.

Sincerely,
The Front Desk

Cafe Pistachio!

What at first glance looks like a weird pistachio driven deli disguised as a cafe is actually Cafe Pistachio, a friendly place to grab a cup of coffee and any snack your heart might desire(if that snack is within the normal cafe lexicon-don't ask for a bowl of chilled gummy bears or something like that).

Here's why I love it:

1. You walk in and hear the faint sounds of jazz which makes any consumer feel real classy.
2. It looks kinda like a Panera Bread which I'm 100% behind because I love Panera Bread and anything that reminds me of it.
3. The decor:standard, but I love it: plenty of beiges and browns, dark wooden tables, pictures of coffee cups floating in mid air tilted slightly to the right...it's great!
4. I have yet to have a full meal there, but I did have some delicious cookies and a bomb soy latte.
5. Tons of salads and sandwiches and drinks and cream stuffed, pistachio dipped apricots.
6. It's a straight up and down cafe that seems to be distinguishing itself through its simple, but delicious food. That's all good with me.

Here are some pictures of my exciting trip:

So much salad you could knit a sweater. What an awful Porky's reference. I'm really sorry about that guys, but don't act like you haven't seen Porky's. You know who's in that movie? Kim Catrall. And you know what show she starred in? Sex and the City. And you know what city you live in? New York. So by the transitive property we all love Porky's and have seen it at least 100 times. But I digress, these salads look good.

There was a cream filled apricot with pistachio on this plate too but Ania ate it before I could take the picture. ANIAAAAAAA!!!

As as side note those two cookies look like eyes and that flower looks like a mouth, so it's kinda like I had a pleasant afternoon snack with a close friend, except that in this case I ate my friend and then blogged about it.

Cookies AND soy latte.

Bye Cafe Pistachio.

I have so many things to tell you....

Guys it's been forever since our last blog post. I'm really sorry, but also I feel like it's worth it because I have so much good news!

Here it is:

1. Valentines Eve Party with Freckle and S.W. Basics!

It's free, there's gonna be chocolate, eco-manicures, champagne and body oils. I literally can't think of anything I'd rather do more.

RSVP/read more about it here: http://ecoluvatfreckle.eventbrite.com/

2. GOLD ZOYA! I've already told everyone I know about this top coat and I'm about ready to scream it from every roof top in New York. You might say, "Amber you're overreacting" and I might say "Leave me alone i'm about to drink this nail polish so that I can become one with it." To each his own.

3. Pixie Dust Matte Zoya It's sparkly and matte and I love it.

4. Cafe Pistachio A new cafe/bakery is opening in Greenpoint. It's on Leonard and Nassau and based on the name I believe they only sell pistachios and coffee. I think it's a fair assumption. Also they're hiring! We'll review them as soon as they open!

5. Early Spring! Sometimes I leave my house, see my shadow and frantically run back inside too. But no ones takes that as an indication of anything.

S-A-T-U-R-D-A-Y NIGHT!

It's time to celebrate! Why you ask? For several reasons-1. It's Saturday, you still have all tonight and tomorrow to drink and brunch yourself silly. 2.It's a new year! 3.We're gonna start covering Greenpoint/Williamsburg restaurants as a regular feature on our blog. If there's a particular place you love let us know...we'll check it out! Otherwise check back here to have your mind blown by my amazing prose about how I ate too many dumplings and am seconds away from taking a nap on the sidewalk. To commemorate this momentous occasion enjoy this video of a girl named Cindy learning how to party, it's pretty informative.

Let's have a vintage New Year

Guys, it's December 31st. Tomorrow's gonna be January 1st.  Let's celebrate with some vintage New Years photography!

Ooooh la la, Bonjur, Fromage...other French words. (Guys I know all painters aren't French.)
This is what I plan on wearing tonight and the exact amount of balloons I plan on carrying around with me.
I have literally never seen a more terrifying depiction of a New Years party.
Those ruffles, those bows...yes please!

So there you go, we know you'll be celebrating your New Year with the same style and class as these ladies(and terrifying drawings) of yesteryear. We want to thank you for business and hope to see you all soon in 2013! Happy New Year!

Freckle's top 3 reasons to celebrate today & what we'd love for Christmas!

1. It's Friday!
For the record I don't recommend going to a party where all your friends are glowing and vaguely orange. I don't recommend having radioactive friends at all actually.

2. The world didn't end!
Though if it did we could have rebuilt it and it probably would've looked like this...oooooh a monorail!

3. Christmas is crazy soon!
Christmas is synonymous with food for me. Look at that turkey glisten...I can't stop staring at this picture.

And now...what we want for Christmas!

 1. Anything from Sprout(S.W. Basics)

Ceasefire, part of their Cocktail Trio

2. Beautiful, Beautiful Scotch Naturals

So simple, but will have your skin feeling tight and right this holiday season!

Merry Christmas everyone! We'll see you in the new year!
